Yellowstone season 5 – everything we know so far

After an action-packed finale, fans are already clamoring for Yellowstone Season 5 on the Paramount Network. As we suspected, a major figure has passed away and justice has been served for the near-fatal attacks on John Dutton (Kevin Costner), son Kayce, and daughter Beth. But their enemies keep coming in, and the Duttons still face many threats against their family ranch.

Yellowstone has become one of the biggest TV shows. Season 4 final scores hit a new high with 9.3 million live + same day total viewers. The explosion in viewership led to the 1883 prequel to Yellowstone on Paramount Plus, as well as another planned spin-off, 6,666.

The mix of complicated family and corporate dynamics has led some to compare Yellowstone to a “ranch estate” (although it results in fewer memes). There are certainly parallels, especially in the controversial relationship between Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and her adopted brother Jamie (Wes Bentley). Shades of Shiv and Roman!

But as Succession comes down to stabbing the board, Yellowstone presents real violence. All the characters have blood on their hands. And the next installment should be just as, if not more, brutal than ever.

Here’s everything we know so far about Yellowstone Season 5.

Yellowstone season 5 release date speculation

While Paramount Network hasn’t officially ordered Yellowstone Season 5, it stands to reason the series will return. The only question is when?

The first three seasons of Yellowstone premiered in June around Father’s Day. However, the pandemic has turned that timeline upside down for Season 4, which debuted in November 2021.

Since Season 4 recently ended, Yellowstone Season 5 might not arrive until late 2022 or early 2023.

At least, however, it looks like Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan has already written Season 5 and is ready to be filmed. In March 2021, actor Cole Hauser, who plays Rip, said so in an interview with Wines HALL.

“Taylor is working on it right now, and I think we’ll be back in July,” Hauser said. “Season 5 is going to be wonderful. The way we ended Season 4 – I can’t say too much about it, but the way Season Four ends, I think the audience… will be pleasantly surprised.”

While the cast list for Yellowstone Season 5 is yet to be official, we can expect most of the major cast to return.

Of course, at the top of the list is Kevin Costner as John Dutton, the Patriarch of the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch.

Then come the actors who play John’s children: Luke Grimes as Kayce Dutton, John’s son and former US Navy SEAL; Kelly Reilly as Beth Dutton, John’s daughter and financier; and Wes Bentley as Jamie Dutton, John’s adopted son, lawyer and aspiring politician.

Are also expected:

  • Cole Hauser as Rip Wheeler, the ranch foreman and lover of Beth
  • Kelsey Asbille as Monica Long Dutton, Kayce’s wife who is Native American
  • Brecken Merrill as Tate Dutton, the son of Kayce and Monica
  • Gil Birmingham as Chief Thomas Rainwater, chief of the neighboring Native American tribe
  • Jacki Weaver as Caroline Warner, the CEO of Market Equities
  • Piper Perabo as Summer Higgins, environmental activist and lover of John
  • Forrie J. Smith as Lloyd Pierce, a ranch elder
  • Denim Richards as Colby, a ranch man
  • Ryan Bingham as Walker, a former prisoner turned ranch man

Actor Jefferson White, who stars as ranch helper Jimmy Hurdstrom, is set to move on to the upcoming 6666 spinoff.

Yellowstone Season 5 Plot

Yellowstone Season 5 is set to pick up the main storylines left hanging in the Season 4 finale (check out how to watch Yellowstone online to catch up).

The biggest development is that Jamie shot dead his biological father, Garrett Randall, who orchestrated the attacks on his foster father and siblings. He disposed of the body at the “station”, but in doing so, it was photographed by Beth. His sister warns him: “You are mine now. She later informs John that he “owns” Jamie.

The wayward kid now has a lot to lose, which does not bode well for his bid for governor. Looks like the way is clear for John to take office.

Beth will likely use Jamie to hit stocks in the market. Its CEO Caroline Warner fired Beth for acting as a spy and vowed to turn the family’s ranch into a public washroom.

Meanwhile, Kayce returned from his spiritual quest, which ended with the prompt that he will have to choose a path. Maybe he will become the heir to the ranch or maybe he will go in another direction. When Kayce comes home, he says to Monica, “I saw our end.”

As for John, he was troubled that activist / one night stand Summer had been given a heavy jail term in court. However, he promised to help her appeal. And soon, maybe he will be in an even more powerful political position to do so.
