WTF? ! It turns out that the Italian senate is not a fan of hentai. At least they aren’t when it interrupts a virtual meeting that’s being streamed live via Facebook and publicly aired on Senato TV. This tragic and awkwardly hilarious storyline unfolded on Monday when an explicit CGI video of Tifa Lockhart from Final Fantasy VII became part of the proceedings.
A meeting of experts from various fields to discuss data transparency in political decision-making went well for the first 30 minutes, but it all went wrong when Giorgio Parisi, Nobel laureate in physics, was introduced to the Zoom call.
That’s when someone walked into the meeting and started streaming a 3D video of Tifa Lockheart enjoying the company of an unidentified man (Cloud?) on a bed. This type of fan-made hentai video can be popular on some subreddits, apparently, but the Italian senate didn’t appreciate the technical skills needed to create these Unreal-rendered clips. A senator asked, “What is it?” something most people say when they see hentai, even if it’s not their first time.
The clip plays for an excruciatingly long 30 seconds as Five Star Movement Senator Maria Laura Mantovani works with her assistant to cut the stream. Unfortunately, like some American Pie-style comedies of the 90s, the sound of growling and slapping continues to play after the clip ends.
Once the shenanigans are stopped, Parisi dives into his speech like a consummate professional. Senator Mantovani gave this description of the incident to DNAKronos: “Yes, I am reporting to the police. Suddenly a porn film was shown on the monitor of the conference we were holding at Palazzo Giustiniani in the Senate.”
“This afternoon there was a very serious episode, a real attack against which I express absolute disdain. In an online conference […] someone broke in secretly by transmitting a video with pornographic content. I proceeded to report everything to the competent authorities so that they can identify the person responsible.”

At the height of the pandemic in 2020, when most of us were working from home, the US attorney and the FBI warned that the Zoom bombing is a federal offense. It is unclear if the charges are harsher if the perpetrators are also streaming JRPG-based hentai.
