Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 – first rumors and what we want to see

The Galaxy Z Fold 4 is likely to be one of the stars of Samsung’s 2022 phone lineup. After refining its larger foldable with this year’s Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3, we’re excited to see where Samsung takes the next series.

So far, there are only limited rumors for the Galaxy Z Fold 4, and nothing concrete about the specs or features. However, there are a lot of things that we hope Samsung introduces, like improved cameras and smarter integration for the S Pen stylus.

Take a look below to see what has been said for the Galaxy Z Fold 4, as well as what we hope can happen with Samsung’s next foldable flagship.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4: possible release date

We don’t have any leaks to make yet, but we can make an educated guess. The last two generations of the Galaxy Z Fold arrived in late summer / early fall, with the Z Fold 3 launching in August and the Galaxy Z Fold 2 in September of the previous year. Therefore, we expect a similar launch date in late August or early September for the Z Fold 4.

We believe Samsung would like to avoid a possible mid-September launch date for the iPhone 14.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4: first rumors

A rumor for the Galaxy Z Fold 4, which comes from Korean leaker eyes1122 on the Korean site Naver. They claim that the camera under the screen remains, but will be less visible than the one found on the Z Fold 3. They also say that the phone will become cheaper, which, given that the Z Fold 3 costs $ 1,799, would be good news.

If that wasn’t to your liking, we also have a rather enticing concept called “Galaxy Flex Note” based on a patent filed by Samsung and implemented by Technizo Concept and LetsGoDigital. We especially like how this design uses a single screen and offers room for an S Pen stylus, which would mark the Z Fold series as the successor to the Galaxy Note series, which this year saw a potential end with the Galaxy Note 21 cancellation.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold: what we would like to see

Better cameras

Despite its steep price, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 has the same set of cameras as the Galaxy Z Fold 2 from the previous year, although the internal selfie camera has been replaced with an underscreen camera.

Ideally, Samsung would have better cameras overall on the Z Fold 4. Photography will not be a lens for Samsung’s foldables like its Galaxy S phones, but resolution sensors. taller or higher would always be a welcome addition. A more powerful Space Zoom would also be appreciated.

Add built-in S Pen storage

The Z Fold 3 introduced the S Pen stylus to Samsung’s foldables, so it would make sense for the company to build on that model with the next-gen model. Hopefully, the company will be able to adapt the stylus to the body of the Galaxy Z Fold 4 like the concept above, rather than forcing you to store the S Pen separately or in specially designed cases again.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra is rumored to have an S Pen slot, so it would be natural for the Galaxy Z Fold 4 to follow suit.

Another price drop

If Samsung is serious about making foldables widespread, it needs to follow the lead of its own Galaxy Z Flip 3 and bring the price closer to that of normal flagship phones. It was something mentioned in the eyes1122 report, but it doesn’t mean much at the moment. A lot can change between now and the actual debut of the phone.

Best hidden display folds

The main side effect of watching content on foldable screens is that sometimes your viewing experience can be marred by the obvious creases in the screen. We don’t expect the crease to go away, but it would be nice to see it fade a bit more into the background.

Thinner frame

The nature of folding the main screen in half will make it difficult to get a particularly thin foldable phone. However, the main complaint from people to whom we owe the Z Fold 3 is that it is too thick and bulky to carry. We’d love to see the Z Fold 4 cut a few more fractions of an inch from its overall size.

Longer battery life

The Z Fold 3 is at a disadvantage because it has to power two displays, one of which is the size of a small tablet. We saw less than 8 hours of battery life in our testing, and we’d like to see more than 10 hours thanks to a combination of maybe a bigger battery and other efficiency gains.
