CES 2022, an annual display of all things cutting-edge technology, has brought big breakthroughs in many areas of residential life — from developments in pet monitoring devices to monolithic multipoint routers.
Don’t forget about robot vacuums. These much-loved sensitive dust collectors that keep our homes nearly spotless. Roborock and Ecovacs, the first with the brand new S7 Max V Ultra and the latter with the Deebot X1 Omni.
If you’re thinking of grabbing one of these robots when they hit the shelves, you might be wondering which of the two is best for you and your home? Well, that’s where we come in. We’ve pitted the S7 MaxV Ultra against the Deebot X1, considering things like suction power, battery life and price to help you decide which vacuum to take home.
Cleaning and performance

The S7 MaxV Ultra brings incredible advancements to Roborock’s already solid object avoidance system. The latest avoidance technology is called Reactive AI 2.0, a mix of 3D mapping and neural processes, and it helps the bot do a number of things. To begin with, he will be better able to recognize what to aspire to and what not to vacuum. It’s never fun when you have to physically pick up your vacuum as it tries to suck your laptop charger into its trash can. AI 2.0 will make incidents much less likely to happen.
Additionally, the Roborock app will now allow owners to tell the S7 MaxV which pieces of furniture are actually okay for the bot to vacuum, as well as do things like create no-go zones in every room of the house.
As well as a huge 5100Pa of suction power, the S7MaxV will also see improvements in floor type recognition, allowing the vacuum to automatically adjust suction and scrubbing power based on floor type. of surface it detects. Oh, and let’s not forget how much dirt the dock itself can collect – about seven weeks.

On the other side of the pitch is the Deebot X1 Omni. Delivering 5,000Pa of suction, the new vacuum combines an AIVI 3.0 camera with TrueDetect 2.0 laser scanning to avoid super-smart objects and a home mapping system (more details below). The vacuum is also equipped with TrueMapping 2.0, a type of navigation technology found in some of today’s self-driving cars.
Equipped with two rotating mop heads that spin at 180 rpm and a three-stage filtration system, the Deebot X1 Omni will be smart enough to return to the charging station when it needs more juice or s needs to deposit dirt and other debris.
And don’t forget the dedicated in-car voice assistant, Yiko. Yes, we assume you’ll still be able to teach Alexa, Google Assistant and Siri to control the X1, but it’s nice to have a built-in AI companion for those of us without Alexa in our lives.
With a slew of features announced for both vacuums, we’re hard pressed to say exactly which unit will clean better right now. For now, we’ll call this one a draw, but we’ll be sure to update once we’ve seen both robot vacuums in action.
Winner: Tie

The Roborock S7 MaxV uses 3D scanning and a lidar navigation profile called PreciSense to create customizable maps of your home. This is also what the hoover will use to pilot the bot around the plans it’s making. Plus, the onboard camera and live mic will allow you to see and communicate with pets and family members when you’re away from home.
In the Roborock app, users will now be able to view rooms in 3D, 2D, and Matrix, giving you a better understanding of which rooms the vacuum should be attacking and where you want it to stay clean. ‘difference.
The Ecovacs Deebot X1 combines mapping and navigation technology for a single hardware/software suite called AIVI 3D Tech (a mix of AIVI 3.0 camera and TrueDetect 2.0 laser scanning). Out of the box, the vacuum will perform a detailed scan of your home, storing these drawn maps in the Ecovacs app, where you can create a custom cleaning schedule, set no-go areas and locate the vacuum along its cleaning path.
For now, we’ll assign this category to the Roborock S7 MaxV, primarily for the mapping and layout changes you’ll see in the companion app.

Cleaning capabilities
One area where robot vacuums tend to have trouble is autonomous cleaning. There are a number of vacuum cleaners that come with water tanks and disposable mop heads, but when it comes to mopping, the results are often mixed. Roborock and Ecovacs are aware of these shortcomings, loading both the S7 MaxV and the Deebot X1 Omni with incredible cleaning features.
On the S7 side, the new vacuum is equipped with Roborock’s optional vacuum wash filling station. This cleaner is especially great for cleaning, as the self-scrubbing feature automatically scrubs the robot mop while cleaning and after a mess has been dealt with. The vacuum is also capable of filling its own water tank and will be able to clean up to 300 square meters before you need to step in for a manual water fill.
Then there’s Ecovacs’ take on high-end cleaning. The Deebot X1 Omni’s charging station will be equipped with two water tanks – one to deposit dirty water and a second to fill the vacuum with clean water. The dock will also be able to wash and dry the vacuum’s cloth mop heads.
With great advancements in cleaning for both brands, we’re calling this category a tie.

Price and availability
Since today’s leading robot vacuums can be quite expensive, it’s important to know how much of a change you’re going to make for an amazing flagship vacuum. A fair warning: neither Roborock nor Ecovacs are touting modest numbers for their high-end robots – although that is expected in the world of robot vacuums, with industry-leading iRobot products costing over a thousand dollars for many years. .
Arriving on Amazon in Q2 2022, the Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra will sell for $1,399. The Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni will be priced at $1,549 and is slated for release in March 2022.
Winner: Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra
The verdict
The Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra and Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni seem like a game changer for what we expect from high-end robot vacuums in the future.
Based on specs alone, it looks like the Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra will have a better shot at securing the “best vacuum” title, thanks to its price and a few of its added cleaning and mapping benefits. That being said, we can be totally floored by the Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni once we put our mitts on it.
As soon as we have tested both vacuum cleaners, we will be sure to let you know our practical impressions. Until then, we can only dream of what these cleaning titans will do once they’re fed, swept, and scrubbed.
