You’ve watched the ads, seen some sort of pop-up while surfing the web, or maybe even noticed that a real physical store has opened near you. Yes, the Peloton Bike is arguably the most popular training equipment. Everywhere you look, it’s there on your face, with instructors shouting buzzwords and inspirational remarks to spur you on. And you know what? There is no escaping it.
Well, I finally gave in and dove into the world of Peloton to see what it was all about. Even though my maximum fitness motivation is behind me, I still try to stay in shape as best I can – and that involves a serious investment in using the Peloton bike for a period of three months. With so much time spent riding a bike, I wonder if this is really the essential training equipment.
Serious cardio workout
The first area I’m going to dive into with the Peloton Bike is whether or not it will get you in great shape. Frankly, it all depends on your level of commitment because during the three months that I spent riding, I did not lose weight. I actually put on a few pounds instead.
What is obvious is that riding a bike will give you a cardio workout, especially if you choose to take a high intensity class that will have you pedaling like crazy for brief stints throughout the workout. Your quads get the most attention on the Peloton bike, especially when working with high resistance and cadence. Most importantly, I completed classes completely drenched in sweat, including the 20 minute classes that I prefer the most. After three months, I found that my endurance had improved a lot compared to the beginning.

For someone who has struggled with chronic foot problems over the past few years, cycling has become my favorite activity for cardio workouts. Even when I have to “get out of the saddle” there hasn’t been a case where I thought it would be too tiring for my foot. However, I cannot say the same for my behind.
Throughout the setup process, you will learn how to best adjust the Peloton bike for a comfortable ride. Despite all the tweaks, I discovered over time that there were some quirks in the design that were hard to overlook. These aren’t compromises, but addressing them could make it a more ergonomic and comfortable bike.
First, let me talk about the narrow seat. It becomes a (literal) pain when you ride a bike in the saddle for more than five minutes, which is why I love workouts that get you out of the saddle. This helps prevent your butt from getting sore. However, these are some of the classes that you sit on throughout the class. Now I would really like to see an optional wider seat, but it doesn’t look like there is one available.
Second, I wish the 21.5-inch HD touchscreen was a bit closer, as I often found myself stretching my arms out while trying to interact with it while riding a bike. When you are cycling vigorously, it is difficult to try to press the icon to greet someone back. If it was raised a little more and placed a little closer to me it would be much better, but the only joint available is to tilt it.
And finally, there are the pedals, which allow me to have good foot placement throughout the workout. Even though Peloton offers their own set of cycling shoes for $ 125 a pair, you can buy them from another manufacturer if the cost is too high. After the first week of cycling, I discovered that maintaining the pace requires a combination of pushing and pulling with the legs. Once you get the hang of it, you’ll be better able to deal with some of the grueling classes.
However, getting off the Peloton bike has always been tricky – I find you need a lot of force to get your feet off the pedals. Now the firm grip is wonderful for keeping my feet on the pedals, but the process of twisting my foot to one side in order to break the connection can sometimes seem impossible to do. I would have preferred something simpler and easier.

Ads don’t lie. What makes the Peloton ecosystem so rewarding is the enthusiastic instructors who run the courses. Some of them, in fact, are so enthusiastic about the music they play that they stop pedaling to dance, which adds to the experience. You will quickly become familiar with the different personalities who animate the courses.
I really like how you can filter the courses that Peloton offers, which gives users a good variety based on musical preferences, instructors, and weather. The latter is particularly noteworthy because I didn’t expect to find so many 20-minute classes to choose from, but there are plenty of them. The only gripe I have with the filtering is that there is no option to choose a class based on the difficulty level.
The interface is fairly straightforward with the majority of the display dominated by the instructor. On-screen details like cadence, power output, and resistance are all visible throughout the workouts, as are details of music tracks and a leaderboard with active participants. I like that there are few distractions, which allows me to focus on my cadence. However, I have had several instances where the stream freezes and then needs to be buffered to resume,
While I struggled to maintain the intensity during each workout, often finding myself barely above the lowest difficulty level, I have to admit that I found it easier to complete each workout in full. over time. The high intensity riding lessons have surely helped me increase my stamina. And of course, I love hearing some of the stories the instructors tell during lessons, which breaks the monotony of just hearing the routine instructions in the proper form.
I can’t do much without a subscription
Well, it’s not just isolated for Peloton, but a major issue I have with today’s connected fitness equipment is that these devices become useless unless you stick to the subscription. With the Peloton Bike, you really can’t get past the main login screen unless two conditions are met – you have an internet connection and an active subscription.
You’re already spending a fortune on the hardware itself, but you still have to add the $ 39 membership fee to use the bike in any meaningful way. Yes, there is an option to just go around the back to track performance metrics and even walk around charming spots guided by Peloton instructors, but you still need to be logged in and have an active membership. This is a thorny question for me because there is really nothing else you can do without these two things.
The monthly cost is comparable to that of competitors, such as the workouts and classes offered by Mirror and Tempo Studio. Beyond his usual bike workouts, you’ll also find yoga, meditation, and boot camp classes. It’s a good mix of things, but it doesn’t quite have the same variety of classes that Mirror offers.
There is nothing here that other bikes cannot do. You sit in it, pedal, and sweat your butt the best you can. The Peloton Bike’s biggest draw, however, is the Peloton experience, with its charismatic instructors, executive boards and music. Speaking of music, it features a wide range of genres.

With so many customizations, lessons, music, and instructors to choose from, you’ll find something that will motivate you to get back in the saddle.

Absoutely. You will gain stamina over time as long as you train regularly, but you will never be bored with the lessons and the energy put out by the instructors.
