The OnePlus 10 Pro is now fully unveiled. It still takes a little while before you can buy it, or even until we can test and review it. But OnePlus’ new flagship is packed with enviable specs that should make it one of the best phones of the year.
OnePlus spent the last week unveiling its latest flagship in drop and drop – a process some people have found to be too long. First, we got a glimpse of the design of the phone, then we heard about its specs and finally the camera details. With the phone launching in China this Thursday, January 13, we now have a more complete picture.
Here’s what you need to know about the key elements of the OnePlus 10 Pro.
OnePlus 10 Pro design
As you can see in the images at the top and bottom of this page, OnePlus has undertaken a pretty big redesign of its flagship phone. The back of the phone now has a camera unit that merges with the side rail of the phone, comparable to that of the Samsung Galaxy S21 series.
The OnePlus 10 Pro comes in two colors: Volcanic Black and Emerald Forest, which is a kind of mint green.
OnePlus 10 Pro cameras
OnePlus has an ongoing partnership with Swedish camera maker Hasselblad. This resulted in another overhaul of the camera system for the OnePlus 10 Pro.
As we already know, the OnePlus 10 Pro’s lenses are the same 48MP, ultra-wide 50MP, and 8MP telephoto main sensors as the OnePlus 9 Pro, with the dedicated monochrome sensor gone on the new model. Some changes from last year include a new 150-degree field of view for the ultra-wide camera, improved color processing, and the ability to shoot in RAW for more powerful editing possibilities.
A new addition to the camera system that has not been previously announced is the Hasselblad Master Style. This offers three presets for the camera system designed by professional photographers: Ambassador Hasselblad Yin Chao and Hasselblad Masters winners Ben Thomas and David Peskens. You can see a sample of the Peskens and Chao styles in the pictures here.
OnePlus 10 Pro display
The OnePlus 10 Pro’s display seems to be one of the best on any phone this year. This is a 6.7-inch QHD + panel with LTPO 2.0, the technology that allows a variable refresh rate between 1Hz and 120Hz.
The OnePlus 10 Pro display also features dual color calibration, which promises to keep colors accurate in both high and low screen brightness.
OnePlus 10 Pro battery and charge
Keeping the OnePlus 10 Pro powered on is another of its flagship capabilities: 80W SuperVOOC Flash Charge, a technology developed by Oppo, Chinese phone maker OnePlus merged with last year. The new charging setup works with the largest battery ever in a OnePlus phone – a 5,000mAh power pack.
Official figures from OnePlus claim that a depleted OnePlus 10 Pro can return to 100% in 32 minutes. But perhaps more importantly, the charging brick comes in the box, unlike newer Samsung or Apple phones.
50W wireless charging is also supported, which takes 47 minutes to fully charge the phone. However, this will most likely require OnePlus’ own charging stand, and it won’t be included in the box.
Other OnePlus 10 Pro specifications
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, the latest Qualcomm chipset that we expect to see in many major Android phones this year, is showing off on the OnePlus 10 Pro. The backup of this chip can be up to 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. The phone will come with up to 12 GB of memory.
Currently, the OnePlus 10 Pro ships with ColorOS as the operating system for Chinese customers. However, when it ships to other parts of the world, it will be available with OxygenOS. However, the software will still be very ColorOS-based, marking a big change from previous OnePlus phones that used an independently developed OxygenOS Android skin – and not one we’re necessarily happy with.
OnePlus 10 availability
Although the phone will ship to China on January 13, we still don’t know when it will arrive in the US or UK. All OnePlus has said is that the phone will arrive later this year. Rumors have suggested a release in March or April.
We’re also waiting to know the price of the phone in China, which will hopefully give us an idea of what we’ll be paying for the OnePlus 10 Pro in other markets.
Outlook OnePlus 10 Pro
While it still takes a while before we give the OnePlus 10 Pro a try for ourselves, it seems a likely candidate for our best guide to Android phones, and maybe even our best guide to phones, just like the ones. OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro before this. But OnePlus faces stiff competition from the already leading iPhone 13 series and Google Pixel 6 – and that’s before the Samsung Galaxy S22 arrives as planned next month.
