Last month, OnePlus officially confirmed what has been suspected for some time: there won’t be a OnePlus 9T. This is the first time the company has jumped on a T-series handset since the line was introduced in 2016, which means fans will have to wait until 2022 to see what a flagship OnePlus looks like. new generation.
But one of the perks of skipping the biannual update is that the change between generations can feel a bit more transformational. And now we have our first rumor of what the OnePlus 10 has to offer, beyond being “polished 9 Series models”.
On Weibo, the Bald Panda leaker (translated by Bing as “pandas are very calm” so take your pick) claims that the OnePlus 10 Pro will offer 5x optical zoom, allowing owners to take better photos from a distance. “The son beats the father, use the 5x periscope on OnePlus 10 Pro,” reads the cryptic translation from Google.
The father in this case is, presumably, the OnePlus 9 Pro, which currently achieves a maximum 3.3x optical zoom on its Hasselblad-branded cameras. It also performs well, with phone publisher Jordan Palmer giving the zoomed-in photograph of the phone a nod to the Samsung Galaxy S21 Plus in his OnePlus 9 Pro review. “While both phones perform well with the zoom, I have to give the OnePlus the win here just because of its image accuracy,” he wrote.
Increasing the optical zoom of the OnePlus 10 Pro to 5x would bring it closer to other Chinese rivals like the Huawei P30 Pro and Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra. Notably, however, the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra is capable of 10x optical zoom, indeed taking some very impressive photos. Presumably, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra (which may or may not be the Galaxy Note 22) will match or improve upon launch, potentially in early 2022.
It will likely beat the OnePlus 10 Pro at launch, with a leaker hinting that it could even be unveiled in December. The OnePlus 10, meanwhile, is expected in early 2022, based on previous OnePlus phone launches. Hopefully, the absence of a OnePlus 9T means the OnePlus 10 series will continue that model with an even earlier reveal in 2022.
