YouTube is launching a new accountability initiative in the Indian market called ‘CreateWithCare’, which will encourage the creators of the platform to post diverse, inclusive and respectful content on the platform.
YouTube has partnered with some of the top creators in India to promote this campaign, and it includes a total of 30 creators in eight regional Indian languages. Some of the big names signing up to the campaign include Technical Guruji, Kabita’s Kitchen, Prajakta Koli, Madan Gowri, My Village Show, Bhadipa, Kushiyagi Ramya, Vishal Langthasa, Wonder Munna, Salu Kitchen.
As part of the campaign, these YouTube personalities “will pledge to create responsive content and inspire emerging creators,” according to the company.
“As more creators access YouTube, we’ve partnered with top creators to run the #CreateWithCare campaign to help new and existing creators understand their responsibility for creating content. sensitive and inclusive. This is yet another way for us to continue to responsibly support and grow the creative community and inspire the wider creative ecosystem, ”Satya Raghavan, Director of YouTube Partnerships, said in a press release.
The company says the campaign is part of its effort to “develop and nurture an ecosystem that helps all creators unleash value,” while reaching a global audience of over 2 billion online users per month.
YouTube says its creator partners will work on “content that cares about diversity and respects different identities, cultures and demographics.” The campaign also encourages new creators to the platform to post responsible content that breaks stereotypes, uses the right terminology and avoids cultural appropriation, especially when posting their own content.
Commenting on the role of women designers in India, Rekha Sharma, Chairperson of the National Commission for Women, said: “Empowering women in India is at the heart of our agenda. We recognize that the internet and technology platforms can play an invaluable role in enhancing opportunities for women when they remain a safe space. I applaud Youtube’s online safety efforts through #CreatewithCare to inspire responsible and inclusive content creation.
“I am a strong advocate for mainstreaming the inclusion discourse and believe that content creators can be powerful allies in this effort. Therefore, creating content with care and responsibility and making sure your audience feels respected is crucial. Be empathetic when talking about people with disabilities and always take a person-centered approach, ”said VR Ferose, founder of the India Inclusion Foundation at the campaign launch.
