Over the past decade, Marvel superheroes have become an even bigger cultural phenomenon than before the studio started making films. But later this year, things are going to get scary as Marvel Studios’ Halloween special on Disney + explores the gruesome side of the MCU. While details on the Halloween special have been scarce, Deadline reports that Nevers“The principal lady, Laura Donnelly, has been chosen to play a major role.
Marvel has yet to publicly announce this project, and the studio was typically silent on who Donnelly will represent. That said, there are plenty of possible horror heroines that could do the trick. During Marvel’s’ 70s horror comics craze, Lilith, Satana, and Jennifer Kale were featured as supporting characters. However, Deadline speculates that Donnelly will play Nina Price, Marvel’s Vampire by Night. Despite the implications of this title, Nina is not a true vampire. Instead, she’s a vampire / werewolf hybrid whose otherworldly nature only emerges after sunset.

Besides Donnelly, the only actor confirmed for Marvel Studios’ Halloween special is Gael Garcia Bernal. He would have to play Jack Russell, a man cursed by his family’s legacy to become a werewolf. Jack was also the star of Marvel Werewolf by night comic book, and Nina Price’s uncle.
One of the most significant aspects of Werewolf by night is that he introduced Marc Spector, alias Moon Knight. Oscar Isaac is headlining the Moon knight series on Disney +, which will debut later this year. It is possible that Moon knight could feature Bernal’s first MCU appearance, but so far that’s only speculation.
Either way, the MCU’s push into the supernatural realm has already started. The post-credits scene of Eternals featured a vocal cameo of Mahershala Ali as Blade. This scene also featured Kit Harington’s Dane Whitman, moments before he embraced his destiny as a dark knight. Presumably, this scene will be revisited in the next Blade reboot film, which is slated to begin filming later this year.
Marvel Studios’ Halloween special is set to debut in October. However, no filming start date has yet been announced.
