Apple generally likes simple names for its products, but that might be about to change with the iPhone SE 3 – a new rumor claims it might actually be called the iPhone SE Plus 5G. Moreover, the same rumor estimates that there could be another iPhone SE model as soon as next year, and that this one would be the iPhone SE 4.
Confuses? It comes from Ross Young, posting analyst and Twitter leaker. This isn’t the first time we’ve heard him call this year’s new budget iPhone by a name we weren’t expecting, as he’s already said the new SE will officially be called iPhone SE Plus. However, it has now added a “5G” to that name.
There’s been an argument that Apple might call the new SE the iPhone SE 5G before, with Young previously saying he “wouldn’t be surprised” if Apple used that moniker. However, for now, he’s stuck with these two potential names combined into one.
The next SE model is rumored to be called SE+ 5G and will have a 4.7″ LCD screen. Previously, the next SE model, SE3, would have a 5.7″ or 6.1″ screen. Now it seems that it will be 5.7″. May be launched in 2023 rather than 2024.January 17, 2022
So, according to Young’s tweet, this year we’ll see a 5G iPhone SE Plus, not an iPhone SE 3. He also claims that it will come with a 4.7-inch screen – the same screen size as of the current iPhone SE – but with 5G compatibility.
The latter will no doubt come in the form of a new Apple chipset, likely the A15 Bionic from the iPhone 13 series. This chip should also provide a big performance boost, keeping the iPhone SE well ahead of all comparably priced Android rivals in the best budget phones segment. And it should also offer other benefits, including longer battery life and improved photography.
Based on various rumors about the device, the iPhone SE 2022 is expected to look a lot like the current SE, with large bezels and a Touch ID home button. It’ll likely only have one rear camera, which, while capable of taking good photos, would be limited in capacity compared to the multiple lenses found on most budget Android handsets.
The fourth-generation iPhone SE, meanwhile, already rumored to arrive in 2023 or 2024, is the phone’s next big update, according to Young. It will use a 5.7-inch or 6.1-inch screen (Young most likely believes the former) and depending on the price Apple gets from its suppliers, the screen could be OLED instead of the existing LCD. .
The next iPhone SE, whatever its name, should be revealed in just a few months. Apple typically holds a spring product event around March or April, so that’s likely where we’ll see the new iPhone SE, rather than in the fall launch window when we’re expecting the iPhone 14.
