IPad mini 6 rumor teases iPad Air-inspired makeover

The iPhone 13 may be gaining the most attention right now, but there are plenty of other Apple products expected to arrive today, or at least soon. The iPad mini 6 is one of them, and a whole bunch of specs may have been leaked online.

This information comes from leaker Majin Bu, which has released supposedly complete specs and pictures for the iPad mini 6. If accurate, they reveal a lot of details about the supposed new tablet – the key phrase here being “so right.”

According to Majin Bu, the iPad mini 6 will launch in November and will come with a huge range of upgrades. This includes an 8.6-inch display, USB-C connectivity, and support for Apple Pencil 2. As with most of the best iPads, it would also come with Touch ID, a smart connector, and would be available with 64 GB or 256 GB storage configurations.

Unfortunately, according to Bu, the tablet will only ship with the A14 Bionic chipset, rather than the A15 which is expected to launch alongside the iPhone 13 later today. The A14 is no slouch and its use in an entry-level iPad shouldn’t come as a huge surprise, but if this information is correct it means that the iPad mini 6 won’t be as powerful as it is. he could have been.

The images shared by Bu – which, let’s point out, are not confirmed to be genuine – show a device quite different from the one we’re used to. For starters, the volume controls have been moved to the top of the tablet, while the left side of the device appears to be reserved for charging Apple Pencil.

The long-rumored full-screen display also suggests that the iPad mini 6 will follow in the footsteps of the iPad Air and offer a Touch ID sensor in the power button. Or at least it could be if these images are genuine.

In terms of colors, this information asserts that the iPad mini 6 will be available in the usual range of hues: lime, space gray, silver and rose gold, as well as green and sky blue. Pricing would start at $ 399 for the 64GB Wi-Fi model and go up to $ 679 for the 256GB cellular variant.

As we said, these rumors are unverified so it’s unclear how accurate the information is, but some aspects make sense. A November launch might be a possibility, for example, given rumors that new iPads will launch alongside the 2021 14-inch MacBook Pro and 2021 16-inch MacBook Pro in “the next few weeks,” but we still can’t be completely sure of that.

Majin Bu’s information has also been criticized by other Twitter users, including concept artist Ian Zelbo, who is known to have worked with a number of prominent leakers. Zelbo underline that some of the details in Bu’s images do not match the CAD files his own renderings are based on.

It’s hard to know who has the right information here, but that’s enough to cast doubt on the leaks. Basically nothing is confirmed until Apple executives step in and tell us what’s going on. Of course, they will be doing that later today for the iPhone 13 launch, so it’s possible that we will meet the iPad mini 6 properly very soon; you can follow everything with us on our Apple Event live blog.
