I don’t want another Netflix adaptation, I want Mega Man Legends 3

Return to ship at Mega Man Legends 2.

Netflix seems to be on a mission lately. The streaming brand almost went wild, searching for Japanese content with a nostalgic appeal and turning it into live-action content with the “Netflix original” stamp. There’s always trepidation when you hear about an adaptation of an old favorite, but the latest Netflix adaptation I heard about is more than usual. Not because I’m outraged by the casting choices, the character omissions, or the use of heartless CGI – we haven’t gotten that far yet. It’s because I waited for a different in addition to mega man franchise for almost (gulp) 22 years.

When I hear the expression “new mega man“I guess this will be the announcement of a new video game, and deep down, I still hope that this announcement is Mega Man Legends 3. Decades later, I and many other fans are still waiting for a follow-up to the two PlayStation games (they eventually ported to a few other platforms including Windows) that have challenged, entertained and mesmerized me from 1998.

Because Mega Man Legends 2 released in 2000, Capcom offered me small round trips mega man universe, including 2001s Mega Man Battle Network series and 2018 Mega man 11. But none continued – or, better yet, completed – the detailed and mysterious story of the Captions games, the tradition of which is laden with themes of myriad family ties, independence, ingenuity and coming of age.

From burst massive balloons in unforgettable mini-games underwater ruins whose puzzling puzzles and tunnels remain one of the most difficult virtual experiences of my life, the Captions the games were really fun to play. By bringing 3D into the franchise, they were also fun to watch. So much so that I also watched everyone in my house beat them.

But it’s not just that I want to play more Mega Man Legends (although I do). It’s not just that I want to know what an era of the 2020s is Captions would even be see like (although I have no doubt it would try some fun new visual tricks in 4K resolution). What I’m most hungry for is a conclusion to the story and a closure for Mega Man Volnutt, who was slowly learning his origins throughout the first two games. I am always curious to know where he comes from, what he really is and if he will ever have all the memories of Mega Man Trigger return. I wonder how relationships, like Mega Man and Roll’s or even their Bonne family allies, could develop under these revelations.

And, more importantly, did Mega Man ever manage to leave Elysium and what adventures could he encounter before that?

There’s a whole new story to tell with pieces already in place. Yet what we apparently get instead is a live-action movie that’s likely to rehash the principal’s much less interesting story. mega man series.

the mega man film, which would have been presented by Netflix

This week, IGN reported that Netflix mega man film has been confirmed by the production company Supermarket (Project power) and the anonymous sources of the site. There is no word from Netflix, but the production company website says Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman write and direct the adaptation. Their most famous works are Catfish and Paranormal activity 3 and 4.

As reported by The edge, there was talk of a mega man move since 2015, and in 2018, Capcom noted the film would be live. What we learned this week is the alleged Netflix connection. Sites, including IGN and mega man fan site The Rockman Corner, reported that Supermarket’s webpage initially stated that Joost and Schulman were working on “an adaptation of Capcom mega man for Chernin Entertainment and Netflix ”, but at the time of writing the page is no longer called Netflix. The Verge noted, however, that Netflix has a major deal with Chernin, so the idea is very plausible.

We don’t know what the movie is about, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see the more traditional mega man with the round widow’s tip helmet rather than any connection to the Captions Games.

What happened to Mega Man Captions 3?

For a while there was tangible hope that the Captions the games would have a follow-up. In 2010, Capcom announcement Mega Man Captions 3 was coming to Nintendo 3DS and even shared very first construction images.

Capcom even asked fans to contribute to the game by submitting and voting for ideas on its Devroom forum. But things took a turn later that year when producer Keiji Inafune, who also produced Mega Man Legends and Mega Man Legends 2, left Capcom to work on Powerful No. 9. He then offered to make the game under contract, but Capcom said that was not necessary, Kotaku reported at the time. Capcom was going later Deny Mega Man Legends 3 ‘This cancellation had nothing to do with the departure of Inafune.

Prototype version of Mega Man Legends 3

However, the project seemed to go wonderfully with the 2011 announcement of Prototype version of Mega Man Legends 3. Available on the 3DS eShop, it was going to be a prologue to the real thing Mega Man Captions 3, with 10 playable missions.

But despite the release of some Game pictures, Capcom announced the same year that it no longer manufactured Mega Man Captions 3 and wouldn’t even release the prototype from the game. There is some comfort in the fact that Capcom admits that it canceled the project, but the blog post did not provide detailed reasoning as to why:

From the outset, the MML3 project was intended to give players around the world insight and input into the development process. Part of this process includes an assessment of whether the title will go into full production and is based on a number of criteria with input from different areas of the business. Unfortunately, Project Mega Man Legends 3 was not deemed to meet the required criteria, and it is with regret that we have to announce that Project Mega Man Legends 3 has been canceled … Legends team, please accept our sincere apologies for not meeting the fans’ expectations.
