HTC Vive Flow images, information arrives ahead of this week’s reveal

Why is this important: HTC’s new VR headset is slated for release later this week, and although the company has released a trailer, it doesn’t show much of the device. Being the internet, of course, some leaked images have just been posted that give us a good look at Vive Flow.

As reported by Protocol, HTC has been teasing its unveiling event, which will likely take place this Thursday, for a few weeks using the “Go with the Flow” line. The company used several images in its campaign that suggest the lightweight headset will be ideal for meditation, media consumption, and similar activities.

From documents released by the Bluetooth SIG consortium, we know that the Vive Flow, which uses the internal name ‘Hue’, is an all-in-one headset, which probably means it’s a VR headset. standalone that does not need to be connected to a PC or phone for power.

The protocol notes that the Vive Flow will contain a less powerful chipset than the Oculus Quest 2, but it will have 6 degrees of tracking freedom, making it more immersive than Facebook’s discontinued Oculus Go device.

Thanks to the prolific leaker Evan Blass, we now have pictures and information about the new headset from HTC. It features a double-hinged system to accommodate different head sizes, a snap-on face pad, immersive spatial sound, adjustable lenses, and an active cooling system. Users can also pair it with a phone via Bluetooth and use their handset as a VR controller.

Pre-orders for the Vive Flow begin October 15, and shipments begin in early November. It will cost $ 499. That’s $ 200 more than Steam’s most popular VR device, the Oculus Quest 2, and half the price of the admittedly much more powerful second-place Valve Index.

This week also announced that Magic Leap will release a successor to its AR headset after raising $ 500 million in funding. The business-focused Magic Leap 2 arrives next year with several improvements over its predecessor.
