How to play YouTube on the Google Home Nest Hub smart screen

Google’s Nest Hub, formerly known as Home Hub, is one of many smart hub devices you can use to control various accessories in your home. Powered by the Google Assistant, the Nest Hub can turn devices on and off, answer questions, keep you informed of news and weather, and more. Among all the many things he can do, he can also stream YouTube right to his screen and you can interact with him through voice or touch.

Having YouTube access available on the Nest Hub is a huge plus, and it’s not hard to set up and start using either. While you don’t need to have a YouTube Premium account, Premium will give you more features that (at least some) are applicable when viewing on the Nest Hub. The main features that you can expect to use are ad-free playback and YouTube Music.

How to play YouTube videos on a Google Nest Hub

Because Nest Hubs have important use cases to be placed anywhere inside your home, there are several ways you can use YouTube through the smart display. First and foremost, by cooking in the kitchen. Trying to remember a recipe can be tricky, and watching a video tutorial can hit the nail on the head, so it’s easy to say, “Ok Google, play it. How to cook orange chicken on Youtube.”

Another easy-to-use example is setting up the Nest Hub on a nightstand or nightstand. You can ask YouTube to run slower story-based videos to put the kids to sleep or get everyone ready for bedtime. Here’s how to set it up.

Step 1: To access YouTube on a Nest Hub, say the trigger phrase “Ok Google”.

2nd step: Say either “Open YouTube” or “Play [Video title] on Youtube.”

Step 3: These controls will display the specified video and start playback or open the general YouTube app for viewing.

Step 4: Use touch controls to choose which video to play.

You can use voice commands or touch controls on the Nest Hub screen to play, pause, and switch between videos.

How to stream YouTube to Google Home

Even though Google Assistant and Nest Hub are some of the smartest devices we have in our homes, using voice commands may not be as intuitive as we would like. Another way to start watching YouTube on your Nest Hub is to stream it from another device. Streaming ensures you’re playing the right video without having to constantly tell the Assistant what you want to watch.

Nest Hubs have built-in Chromecast technology. So you can use the YouTube app on your phone / tablet or your computer’s website to stream any video you watch on your Nest Hub. When you stream video to a Nest Hub, you have the option of controlling media and audio playback from the original device or by using voice commands and touch controls on the Hub itself.

Step 1: Make sure your Nest Hub and your smartphone or tablet are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

2nd step: Open the YouTube app.

Step 3: press the Radio sharing at the top of the app and select your Nest Hub to open YouTube on the smart screen. You can also select a video first, then press the share button on the radio to play the video on your Nest Hub immediately.
