How to change your Gmail name

There are many reasons why you might want to change your name in Gmail. Some people created their first Gmail account in college and no longer want to be identified with the embarrassing username they signed up with. Some people want to change their surname after they get married. We have developed a short and easy guide for those of you who want to change your username in Gmail.

How to change your Gmail name?

Step 1: The first step is to open gmail in your web browser, enter your credentials and log in to your account.

2nd step: Then click on the Settings cog icon in the top right of your screen. In the drop-down menu that appears, click See all parameters.

Step 3: Click on Accounts and Import

Of the multiple tabs you will see on the screen, click on the one that says Accounts and import. This is the fourth tab in the row.

Step 4: Go to Edit Information

The fourth option in the list will say Send mail as. Under this option, click Edit information.

Step 5: Enter your new username

The final step will take you to a field where you can enter your new username. Enter the name of your choice.

Step 6: Save your changes

Click on the option that says Save changes.

How do I change my Gmail name in the Gmail app?

You cannot change your name from the Gmail app on your phone. Instead, you need to sign in to your Gmail account from your PC or through your phone’s web browser to perform the aforementioned steps.

It’s also worth noting that in some cases, you’ll run into issues when trying to change your Gmail name. You may get an error saying: “This setting cannot be changed for your account”. This could happen mainly for two reasons. Either you have changed your name too many times in a short period of time, or you are using a Google Workspace account and the administrator does not allow you to change your username. In this situation, you need to contact your administrator to help you change it.

Can I change my Gmail address without creating a new account?

You cannot change your Gmail email address and keep anything associated with your Google Account. For a change of e-mail address, you must create a new account. However, you can change your Gmail username while keeping the same account.
