Waiting for a shiny new Apple product? Well, you have to wait until March or April to get your hands on the Cupertino giant’s next “it” product. While Apple has yet to announce when it plans to hold its first big event of 2022, rumors say we could see one in March or April. Likely a virtual event, Apple could announce new products that it plans to ship in the near future. All signs point to the arrival of the third-generation iPhone SE, iPad Air 5, and next-generation iPad Pro. Here’s what to expect from Apple’s first event of the year, based on the latest reports and rumours.
When is the next Apple event?
Apple typically holds three to four events each year, including a sprint event. While the launch of the new iPhone takes place in September, the October event is mainly for Macs. Sure, a spring event doesn’t go quite as well as September’s, but it becomes strategically important to Apple. We still don’t know the exact date when Apple will hold its first event of 2022, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman believes this year’s spring event will be in March or April. The 2021 Sprint event revealed the iPad Pro with M1 chip, an iMac M1, an updated Apple TV 4K and some long-awaited AirTags.

iPhone SE 3
The biggest announcement expected at Apple’s next event is the launch of the third-generation iPhone SE. The iPhone SE 2 was announced in 2020, but last year Apple decided not to release a version. Various reports have claimed that Apple is working on two different iPhone SE models, one featuring the iPhone 8 design and updated internals and the other a bit more advanced and a new design. However, the 2022 iPhone model would come with an LCD display, 5G support, and FaceID. This is the model that will most likely launch in March or April. The iPhone SE has gained popularity in markets like India, thanks to its affordability. Apple will continue to stick to the formula to keep devices like the iPhone SE alive. iPad Air 5
Apple has every reason to launch the next-generation iPad Air in 2022. The redesigned iPad Air, which debuted in late 2020, has proven to be a hit. We’re only speculating at the moment, but it’s possible that Apple will launch the iPad Air at its next spring event. We wouldn’t be surprised to see whichever processor ends up in the iPad Air 5. The A15 Bionic processor would bring the next iPad Air into something as powerful as the iPad mini 6 in terms of performance. There are also talks of bringing 5G to the iPad Air, although this is only a rumor at the moment. Read our iPad Air 4 review.
Rumors of a new iPad Pro with a new design and wireless charging have surfaced recently. (Image credit: Nandagopal Rajan/Indian Express)
iPadPro
Last year’s iPad Pro with the M1 chip was incredibly powerful, but developers couldn’t take advantage of desktop performance when developing “pro” apps. Expect the new iPad Pro this year, but the question is whether it will be powered by the M1 Pro processor or the unannounced M2 chip. According to a Bloomberg report, the next iPad Pro could have a new design and wireless charging support. Read our 2021 iPad Pro review.

mac mini
Apple could take the opportunity to refresh its Mac computers, including the Mac mini. In 2022, Apple updated the Mac mini with the M1 processor. Now that Apple has already unveiled the M1 Pro and M1 Max processors, we should expect a faster Mac mini. The iPhone maker has reportedly been working on a powerful Mac mini with a new design for quite some time. The new Mac mini will likely feature a new power cable launched in the iMac M1 and a Plexiglas-like texture on top.
