Google makes it easier for users to access Google Drive files in the Chrome browser.
It adds a map on users’ Chrome browser New Tab page that will display relevant files from their Google Drive to make it easier and more efficient for them to find the files they need.
“In 2019, we launched the ability for some users to quickly search for files in the URL bar of the Chrome browser. We’re taking this experience one step further by bringing smart file suggestions right to your New Tab page in Chrome. Google said in a blog post.
With this update, end users will be able to access their highest priority Drive files directly from Chrome Desktop’s new tab page.
“The easily accessible interface will save the end user the time and mental burden of navigating to the relevant files,” he said.
Administrators should note that the feature will be enabled by default and can be disabled at the domain / organizational unit / group level as long as the default new tab page experience is available to users.
“This feature will not impact users for whom admins have set a different New Tab page experience using Chrome rules,” Google said.
For end users as well, the feature will be enabled by default until users change their experience of the New Tab page. It can be deactivated and reactivated by the user by clicking on the “Customize Chrome” button at the bottom right of the new tab page.
It will be available to all Google Workspace customers, as well as to G Suite Basic and Business customers. It will also be made available to users with a personal Google account.
