Ubisoft takes its Ghost Recon series to new territory with Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Frontline, a free player versus player shooter game supporting over 100 players.
The Ghost Recon series is a Ubisoft staple. This 20 year old military tactical shooter has many entries, dating back to 2001. 2022 First line marks the first time the series has entered the massively multiplayer online arena, following the disappointing Ghost Recon Breakpoint.
While the game will feature plenty of play modes, the highlight is the expedition, where over 100 players will compete in teams of three to achieve their goals while roaming an open world map featuring multiple biomes. These objectives consist of interrogating enemies to find out the location of their teammates (similar to Fortnite), collecting and protecting information, and surviving their journey. Victory is claimed by reaching the end and calling in an extraction team to escape.
Ubisoft promises that Expedition will be a very unique experience for different players. The company pointed out that the game mode can be supplemented in different ways. Players can summon dynamic cover, vehicles, automatic turrets, and more.
Ubisoft also said that “faster” modes will hit Phantom reconnaissance front line also. The game will be updated on a seasonal basis with new player classes and game modes.
Although First line does not have a confirmed release date, players in Europe on Windows PCs can participate in a beta test on October 14. Phantom reconnaissance front line is heading to Windows PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X / S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Amazon Luna, and Google Stadia.
