It looks like another MCU secret has been released ahead of schedule. Iconic actor Bill Murray, star of classic films including Ghostbusters and Lost in Translation, has reportedly revealed who he plays in Ant-Man 3.
Appearing in the last episode of the Eli Manning ShowMurray appeared to suggest he would play a “bad guy” in the upcoming Marvel movie. The star hasn’t confirmed exactly who he played in Project Marvel Phase 4, however, so he maintained. some secret about his role in the superhero movie.
Casually chatting over takeout, Manning touched on Murray’s upcoming MCU role before asking what his superpower would be. In a typically funny way, Murray replied, “My power is that I’m a bad guy” before chuckling into his briefcase.
Talk to Variety In October, Murray confirmed he had signed on to play a role in Ant-Man 3, citing director Peyton Reed as the main reason for his decision to say yes. The BAFTA and Golden Globe-winning actor said one of Reed’s other films – Bring It On – was a “damn good” movie, and added that Reed’s “funny” and “humble” personality l ‘had convinced him to sign up for the Marvel film. .
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania wrapped up filming in November 2021 ahead of a July 2023 release date. The Marvel film will see Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lily, Michael Douglas, and Michelle Pfeiffer reprise their roles from the franchise’s previous film, Ant. -Man and the Wasp.
The film will also bring another iconic Marvel villain – Kang the Conqueror – into the Marvel Live-Action Universe. Kang will be played by Jonathan Majors (Lovecraft Country, The Harder They Fall), the actor who played one of the Kang variations in the first season of the Marvel Disney Plus Loki show.
Analysis: is Bill Murray serious in his role of Ant-Man 3?
On the surface it Is it that Apparently Murray has confirmed that he will be playing a villain in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. After all, while the cast and crew must sign confidentiality agreements when signing a Marvel production in order to prevent them from revealing major spoilers, some actors accidentally let things slip.
Current Spider-Man and Hulk cast Tom Holland and Mark Ruffalo were so bad at avoiding spoilers, in fact, that the couple became as famous for leaking sensitive information ahead of release as they were for their MCU roles.
Murray is therefore not the first (and will not be the last) to partially or totally spoil an element of a Marvel movie. And it looks like he wouldn’t mind spoiling some elements of Ant-Man 3, given that he’s confirmed his role as the MCU is a one-time deal. Speaking to German magazine Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (via ComicBook.com), Murray said, “Now I’ve at least tried what it’s like to shoot a Marvel movie, but I don’t think I need that experience a second time.”
Given these quotes, it’s likely Murray is telling the truth about his villainous role in Ant-Man 3.
But what if it isn’t? What if Murray’s “villainous” comment, in response to Eli Manning’s question, was just a throwaway remark that he isn’t laughing at anything these days, especially considering take their age into account? Maybe Murray calling himself “mean” just implies that this is how he is viewed by some people due to his nonchalant demeanor and personality? There’s only one person who knows exactly what he meant, and that’s Murray himself.
Still, it will be some time before we know which Marvel character he will play in Ant-Man 3. The film won’t be released for 18 months, and the only movie Murray will release before July 2023 is that of Wes Anderson. Asteroid City, which is set to hit theaters in 2022. So we won’t have many opportunities to question Murray about his “bad guy” comments.
