Arcane season 2: cast, potential plot and what we know so far

Arcane season 2 feels a long away at this point. The hit Netflix animated show, based on Riot Games’ iconic League of Legends (LoL) game franchise, is one of the best animated TV shows of all time, so it’s no surprise that ‘it is monitored.

And don’t take our word for it. When we spoke to the cast and crew ahead of Arcane Season 1, it looked like it would be a Netflix series to watch. But we (or anyone, quite frankly) didn’t expect the first season of Arcane to receive a 100% certified fresh rating on the review aggregation website. Rotten tomatoes. Or for the show to be there nine Annie awards at this year’s ceremony. But it does, so Arcane was certainly another huge win for Netflix.

Still, don’t expect Arcane Season 2 to arrive anytime soon. Its creators have confirmed that it will be another 12 months before the next episode of the series arrives, so we’ll just have to revisit season 1 over and over again to help us out.

In the meantime, what do we know about the second season of Arcane? The latest news is that Fortiche Productions, the company behind the show’s magnificent animation and artistic style, is recruiting to work on Season 2. And it looks like some members of the show’s crew have teased a potential plot point that could cause consternation between two key characters. .

Below you’ll also find more news and information on Arcane Season 2. We’ve digged into its potential release date, likely returning cast members, story threads that will need to be continued or resolved, and more. Full spoilers for the show’s first season follow, so only read on if you’re up to date or don’t mind having the potential aspects of Arcane Season 2 ruined for you.

There is no official release date for Arcane Season 2 yet. We know it’s on its way, however, after news of the series’ return following the Season 1 finale:

The above teaser doesn’t reveal anything other than revealing that Season 2 is in production and that three characters from Season 1 will be returning (more on that later). Nonetheless, we are delighted that Arcane is making a second outing. He certainly deserves one.

But when will it return to Netflix? At the moment, it’s hard to say because we don’t know how far Season 2 is. But don’t expect it to happen in 2022, according to Nicolo Laurent, CEO of Riot Games, who tweeted. that the next entry in the series wouldn’t be ready for next year:

Expect Arcane Season 2 to drop sometime in 2023, then. Since Fortiche Productions recently posted a job posting for new FX3D artists for season 2 (thanks for the warning, Reddit!), the development of season 2 is still in its early stages.

We’re happy to wait, though: the show obviously needs a lot of care and attention to make it as good as it is, and rushing it will only get a bad follow-up. Hopefully, Season 2 will be with us early in 2023 but, even if it isn’t, we would happily wait until December 31, 2023 for the Season 2 premiere.

Arcane Season 2 Plot

Spoilers follow for Arcane Season 1. You have been warned.

If you’ve watched the first season of Arcane, you’ll know that some characters might not be back for their next batch of episodes. That’s because, in the Season 1 finale, Jinx fired an arcane crystal rocket at Piltover’s council chamber with many main and secondary characters trapped inside. Those in the chamber when the rocket exploded included Jayce, Mel, Viktor, Cassandra, Hoskel, Bolbok, Shoola, and Salo.

And we don’t expect all of these individuals to survive. If we had to guess, we would say that Mel and Cassandra, at the very least, will have perished or been seriously injured. This would prompt Jayce and Caitlyn to pursue Jinx, as Mel and Cassandra are Jayce’s partner and Caitlyn’s mother, respectively.

So we suspect that Season 2 of Arcane will see Jayce reneging on his promise to give Zaun his independence from Piltover, especially now that Jinx (a citizen of Zaun) has carried out a terrorist attack against the latter’s advice.

Caitlyn, too, might want revenge if her mother was injured or killed, which would put her in conflict with Vi, with whom Caitlyn had become close. The latter is Jinx’s sister, after all, so Vi will likely be caught in a predicament: help Caitlyn and Jayce bring her sister to justice, or try to “save” Jinx from herself, which would put her in danger. opposition with Caitlyn and Jayce.

It’s also not the only thing that can drive a wedge between Caitlyn and Vi. Responding to a fan on Twitter to find out if Caitlyn knew it was Vi and her gang who blew up Jayce’s lab at the start of Season 2, Arcane writer Amanda Overton revealed it wasn’t. . Could Caitlyn learn the truth in the show’s second season? It’s highly possible, and we think she’ll be angry if she does.

Either way, expect the brewing war between Piltover and Zaun to take center stage in Arcane season 2. Tensions were already brewing between the two nations throughout the show’s first season. , and we wouldn’t be surprised if a full-blown conflict began as a result of Jinx’s attack on Piltover’s council.

As for the other story threads that Arcane Season 2 will have to deal with, we expect Heimerdinger and Ekko to continue working together to help the Underground City. The elder having rejected Piltover’s advice in Episode 7 of Season 1, he ran into an injured Ekko on the streets of Zaun in Episode 8. The couple bond around their mutual love for technology and , after Heimerdinger helps Ekko return home, the duo decide to collaborate and try to alleviate Zaun’s suffering.

We’ll also have to see if Viktor gets completely lost in his Hextech research. He’s already inadvertently murdered his childhood friend Sky as a result of studying Hexcore, and it looks like he’s going to take a darker path in Season 2. If we know anything about the LoL lore, there’s every chance we can see Viktor using Hextech to cybernetically improve his body even more and become the LoL champion than diehard LoL fans know him.

Arcane Season 2 Cast

Casting of season 2 of Arcane: who returns?

Again, there is no confirmation on this front. But, based on the teaser above, we’re confident that a trio of female characters will be returning for the Arcane sequel:

  • Hailee Steinfeld as Vi
  • Ella Purnell as Jinx
  • Katie Leung as Caitlyn

As the video from the tweet above suggests, Vi, Jinx, and Caitlyn will all be back for Arcane Season 2. We hear the voices of the trio at various points throughout the teaser and, given that the three have watched for this explosive finale of season 1, rather than being present in the room we know they are safe from harm and should return for season 2.

So who else can come back? It will depend on who survives the attack on the Piltover Council Chamber. As we said earlier, we believe that Mel and / or Cassandra could be victims of Jinx’s strike, while any of the other council members can die or be injured as well. We would expect Jayce to survive, however. He has a bigger role to play, in our opinion, and he will no doubt want to bring Jinx to justice for his crimes.

Additionally, Ekko and Heimerdinger are expected to be back for season 2. The duo weren’t part of the attack on the council chamber, so they should return and we’ll see how their character arcs progress in season two of. Arcane. Viktor, too, is expected to return, even though he was in the council room at the time of Jinx’s attack.

There will likely be new faces introduced in Season 2. There were many deaths during Arcane’s first release – Silco, Vander, and Marcus to name just three – so there is a need for new supporting characters. We have no idea who might show up, but there are plenty of LoL heroes and villains that Riot, Netflix, and Fortiche Productions can pull from the game franchise universe and use for the animated series.

Arcane season 2: does it deserve another release?

Yes, clearly. Show Holds 100% ‘Fresh’ Rating on Review Aggregator Website Rotten tomatoes among critics, while it also has a “fresh” rating of 96% based on audience reviews.

Given its critical success and popularity, Arcane Season 2 was a formality. That might not have been the case before the release, but as soon as Netflix saw its performance, it was only a matter of time before the company renewed it for a second release.

There are plenty of stories to tell, character arcs to tie together, and new individuals and champions to introduce, so Arcane will never be short of ideas from a plot point or character development standpoint. We’re also big fans of the Fortiche visuals for the animated series, so we would be happy to see many more episodes on the TV show.
