One of the standout features introduced as part of Android 12 is undoubtedly the wallpaper-based themes it pushes, especially for those of us into personalization. While a set of colors that flood your system based on your wallpaper doesn’t necessarily change how your phone works, it does add a nice touch of personalization to your phone, making it very much yours and not what a Google or Samsung engineer has decided.
For Android 13, Google is apparently working to refresh this system with the introduction of four new styles. The new styles are called TONAL_SPOT, VIBRANT, EXPRESSIVE and SPRITZ, depending on android font, and will offer very different atmospheres.
In that order they are described as a theme similar to the current wallpaper theme you know from Android 12 at one with a change of accents to another that might go wilder in colors for a more understated look , even desaturated. I totally agree that there are bigger differences between each theme, as the current Android 12 setup only offers subtle and very dynamic takes, depending on your wallpaper.
The image above is from a Pixel 6 Pro running Android 12 is just an example of the current theme based on the wallpaper we have. For Android 13, we don’t know whether or not Google changes this settings page, where you choose a theme, but it should look like.
The first developer preview of Android 13 could be here in about a month if you can believe it.
