The Dyson Airwrap Styler was, once again, one of the most popular gifts during the holidays. That’s impressive considering its hefty price tag of $ 549.99. I too took the bandwagon and decided to buy this gadget to find out if the Dyson Airwrap is definitely worth it for myself. It has only been a few weeks since I started using it, but I have learned a lot during this time.
If you are planning to take the plunge and purchase a Dyson Airwrap Styler, it is worth reading the following points first so that you know what to expect from such an investment. Here are five things I have learned since using the Dyson Airwrap.
Unlike traditional hair straighteners and curlers, the Dyson Airwrap is designed for use on damp hair. This means that if you get out of the shower, you should half-dry your hair before using the device. Dyson provides a pre-styling dryer attachment for this, which gets the job done, but one thing frustrated me.
After using the Airwrap Barrel accessories and completing my look, my roots were damp under my top layer of hair, which was especially uncomfortable for sleeping or going outside. I needed to practice drying my roots completely while leaving the length of my hair damp, which was and still is tedious and time consuming.
In my opinion, the whole process of getting your hair semi wet would be easier if you spray dry hair with a bottle of water, rather than styling it immediately after washing your hair – from this way you can avoid moistening the roots.
The results look more natural
I was impressed with the much more natural and even finished look compared to using standard hair rollers. I could easily alternate the loops as two barrels are provided for each direction; Also, reaching the back of my head was not as difficult as when I was using a traditional hair curler.
The style holds up as well – I styled it overnight to see if it lasted until the morning and while it wasn’t as neat, the curls definitely held.
Even if you just use the brush attachments and blow dry your hair quickly, there is less frizz overall. Whatever accessories you use, the hair looks smoother and healthier.
it’s a bit bulky
You can see that the Dyson Airwrap comes in a large leather case, but even online it doesn’t look as big as it actually is. The case measures 6.5 x 15 x 7 inches. Plus, with everything included, it weighs 1.5 pounds. So, you will need to make room on your dressing table if you want to keep it exposed. Personally, I prefer to store the main accessories I use in a travel pouch and keep them in a drawer for easy access.
Unless you bought the special gift edition of the Dyson Airwrap, you will notice that the travel pouch is not included in the set. Dyson sells a travel pouch, but at $ 49.99, it’s not cheap. Alternatively, you can just purchase a generic travel pouch, such as the BUBM Travel Case ($ 18, Amazon).
The noise is awesome, but it can get boring
The Dyson Airwrap Styler sounds amazing when you first use it, almost like a mini version of its stick vacuums. However, it is not as spellbinding in the morning. This is especially the case if you are using the cannon accessories, as you have to keep turning it on and off; my partner found it more annoying than the constant blur of the regular hair dryer.
It’s also sharper than the average hair dryer, almost like a dentist’s drill, which my cat really didn’t like. Suffice it to say, if you plan to use it while others are sleeping, you will need a secluded room.
Patience is the key
I assumed the Dyson Airwrap would be quick and easy to use, achieving glamorous Hollywood curls in minutes. While it works, it takes practice and patience to perfect the art. Barrels are easy to use – more than brushes in my opinion – but you need to get the right angle and positioning to quickly pick up a lock of hair and create cohesive, neat curls. I didn’t use the brush attachments as much as I should because I struggled so much the first time around, but using the Dyson Airwrap takes practice and you should be prepared to put in the time.
Once you get the hang of the method, it seems faster than using traditional hair straighteners or curlers. If it damages your hair less like Dyson claims, it’s a win-win scenario.
